Englewood Cliffs Refinishing Project 2017
Customer had recently purchased a two story home, with basement, in residential Englewood Cliffs. The first two floors – both hardwood – were in need of some serious TLC but rather than rushing to replace them, Customer opted to sand and stain them with the hope that they might be preserved.After using a state of the art dustless sanding process on both floors, Floor Town’s crew subsequently ‘opened up’ the hardwood grain through a water popping process. (Sanding causes hardwood grain to tighten up, but once a thin coat of water is carefully applied to the sanded surface, the pores open up even larger, allowing for much higher stain absorption rates than otherwise).
Once the floors were adequately prepped for the staining phase, Floor Town attentively applied a Country White base coat, followed by a Bona Traffic HD finish coat that had just received Greenguard certification status*. Together, the stain and the finish created a more European look, allowing the wood’s natural grainy texture to continue to shine through.
Customer was extremely pleased with the second floor’s results (Please read customer’s feedback below); they decided to duplicate the process on the first floor as well.

*Greenguard certified products is a designation given s to products that have been approved for children and for the use in schools. These are products which emit very low levels carbon particles known as Volatile Organic Compounds (aka VOC’s) that also contain elements of hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine , sulfur or nitrogen, toxic chemicals, that are frequently released as gases or vapor in the air.
